One Week One Pattern - Seamwork Astoria

It would be fair to say that the Seamwork Astoria is my most made and most worn pattern. Sometimes you find one that just works! This is also one of those that I turn to when I only have 1m of fabric to hand (sometimes even less!). I find that the Astoria works particularly well for my work wardrobe, which is also why it featured as my One Week One Pattern choice. I only posted two new versions on Instagram but I wore other versions throughout the week, as it really is a staple item for me. This time I did alter the pattern somewhat as well for a little more variety too....

Version 1

This Astoria is actually a refashion from the Sew Over It Ultimate Wrap Dress. I've never been totally keen on what I made and the fabric is a little stiff for a dress. I managed to find enough fabric in the dress for sleeves, waist band and bodice, but not enough for a neckband. Instead I raised the neckline on the pattern and constructed it in a similar way to the Moneta top that I made a few weeks ago (using the same fusible seam tape across the top as well). I didn't have enough fabric to be able to lengthen the bodice as I often do but it works fine with the suits that I have anyway. I'm already getting more wear out of the top than the dress, but obviously I'd rather not have paid for an extra metre that essentially went into recycling in the end.

Version 2

This is the red one at the top of the post. I did the same long line alteration that I outlined in my previous Astoria post. This time I also lengthened the sleeves and didn't taper them as much so they have a slight bell shape. This was made in a thicker fabric to which I usually pick so the neckline sometimes sticks up a little, but with the bell sleeves, it gives it a bit of a sixties vibe that adds a bit of interest and glamour. This fabric is incredibly comfortable and very good value from Girl Charlee (less than £10 a metre if I remember rightly).
