It seems like I've been making a lot of Sew Over It patterns recently. In this case it's because I needed a pattern I could rely on to be flattering and practical as well. This summer we have had a Christening already and have two weddings to go to as well. After my first Sew Over It Eve dress, I knew a smart fabric choice and couple of tweaks would give me something to depend on for these upcoming celebrations. I love the feminine look of the gathered shoulders and floaty sleeves. Being a wrap dress there's a little bit of flexibility with fit over the next few months too!
Fabric
I bought this fabric at the Knitting and Stitching show from the Fabrics Galore stand - I think it was £8 a metre (but I really can't remember due to the fabric buying frenzy of the day). I also have no idea what type of fabric it is - I'm tempted to call it a peachskin? It doesn't fray, hardly creases and has good drape. The shoulder gathers are a little puffier than my crepe version, but it wears well and is flattering. I was initially drawn to the bright colours and knew it would be a lovely flowy summer dress. This is one of the most practical fabrics I've used - easy to make something with and the best thing is that I don't have to worry about looking rumpled after travelling or sitting like I would with a rayon or cotton. One of the weddings we have to go to is a 2 hour car journey from where we are staying so not wrinkling is a major factor in outfit choice!BTW - I only needed 2m instead of the 3.2m stated on the pattern.
I also found it hard to find stay tape in the online fabric stores. I did find some on ebay which was delivered really quickly, with no shipping charges, so do have a look there.
