The perfect Wedding Guest Dress - Sew Over It Eve

The perfect Wedding Guest Dress - Sew Over It Eve Dress

It seems like I've been making a lot of Sew Over It patterns recently. In this case it's because I needed a pattern I could rely on to be flattering and practical as well. This summer we have had a Christening already and have two weddings to go to as well. After my first Sew Over It Eve dress, I knew a smart fabric choice and couple of tweaks would give me something to depend on for these upcoming celebrations. I love the feminine look of the gathered shoulders and floaty sleeves. Being a wrap dress there's a little bit of flexibility with fit over the next few months too!

Fabric

I bought this fabric at the Knitting and Stitching show from the Fabrics Galore stand - I think it was £8 a metre (but I really can't remember due to the fabric buying frenzy of the day). I also have no idea what type of fabric it is - I'm tempted to call it a peachskin? It doesn't fray, hardly creases and has good drape. The shoulder gathers are a little puffier than my crepe version, but it wears well and is flattering. I was initially drawn to the bright colours and knew it would be a lovely flowy summer dress. This is one of the most practical fabrics I've used - easy to make something with and the best thing is that I don't have to worry about looking rumpled after travelling or sitting like I would with a rayon or cotton. One of the weddings we have to go to is a 2 hour car journey from where we are staying so not wrinkling is a major factor in outfit choice!

BTW - I only needed 2m instead of the 3.2m stated on the pattern.
I also found it hard to find stay tape in the online fabric stores. I did find some on ebay which was delivered really quickly, with no shipping charges, so do have a look there.

Pattern and Instructions

I have covered a lot about the pattern and instructions in my first Eve Dress post, so won't repeat here. What I can tell you is that this time I used the size 8 pattern instead. When I'm wearing my other Eve dress I do have to have a vest underneath as the V is a little low. I thought that sizing down might give a tighter fit and mean that I don't have to have a vest as well - I think it takes away from the beauty of the pattern. Turns out it does fit me better than the size 10 (though that's where my measurements fall) and there's minimal movement at the front wrap section.

Alterations

I took about 20cm off the hem, based on what I needed to take off my last Eve. I'll admit that it ended up a little shorter than I intended, but actually is a good length for me. This is probably why I can get the dress out of 2m instead of 3.2.
