Summer dresses I really want to add to my wardrobe this year
I'm not going to pretend that for me this month is about anything other than the Sew Over It Eve Dress. I've been waiting for this pattern to be released for ages, and managed to get my hands on one back in April, ready for this month's project.
I think Burda 6521 (above) would look great in polka dots.
The Etta dress by Tilly and the Buttons is perfect sewing for summer weddings. There is an online class associated with this that covers lots of key dressmaking skills too so it's a good choice for beginners.
The Liesl and co Bistro dress looks perfect for exploring on summer holidays - sophisticated but still comfortable.
Another wrap-style dress that looks great is the Sewaholic Yaletown dress. This one is similar to the Eve dress in some respects, but the skirt panel is made up of one piece.
Summer wouldn't be summer without a maxi dress! For the last two years I've self drafted and hacked other patterns rather than paying for a maxi dress only pattern. I'm going to see what I can put together this year.
Fabrics I'm loving right now for this project
Viscose fabrics - always a favourite of mine. Dragonfly fabrics have some lovely prints in stock like the blue feathers above.
Jersey - A cotton jersey wrap dress is super comfortable in the hottest weather. I know I love the viscose jersey I got from Splendid Stitch for my Wren dress when the temperatures soar.
Cotton sateen - Perfect for making wedding guest dresses. Sew Essential have a great range of John Kaldor fabrics like the one above which would make a fabulous Etta. I'm also thinking a scuba fabric could work well with this too, as it doesn't have a lot of stretch but can look quite glamorous.
Cotton lawn - this is the perfect time of year to make use of the fabulous array of prints available in cotton lawn....if you're feeling extravagant you can always indulge in a Liberty print like the one above!
